Julie Kondo is a Berlin-based product design director.

UX Design Manager, Amazon

My core responsibilites are managing a design team, hiring, and collaborating on global products that reach millions of customers.

In my first few months I worked in the retail side, design-managing areas of the global shopping experience. In April 2020, I moved to AWS UX and now focus on the AWS design system.

Product Design Director, Omio

At Omio, I led the design team for the core product experience and managed four talented and amazing designers who helped push forward the product vision.

I believe collaboration and supporting one another is key to a successful team. That's why I made sure we designed as a unit and thought of systems over screens. I also worked to create a culture of user-centricity and design processes within the 300-person startup.

Associate UX Director, Huge

Huge is a full-service digital agency. As a UX director on multiple accounts, I partnered with clients on strategy and design for some of their biggest initiatives.

2016. Partnered with P&G's billion-dollar beauty brand, SK-II, to shape their digital transformation strategy.

2014-15. Moved to Singapore to open Huge's first Asia office. Focused on account growth, new business, and community outreach.

Also led UX on various accounts, like Credit Suisse's first private banking app. Made for high-net worth clients in Asia, it was the first to provide full fledged digital self service and relationship management in Private Banking.

2013. UX Lead for Google's Think Insights product. Tested and designed new features and ongoing site improvements.

2012. Senior Interaction Designer working with Comcast. Designed the company’s first mobile bill pay and self-service portal.

Other things I've done.

Run a UX consultancy

From May 2017 to Feb 2018, I lived in Santiago de Chile and ran my own freelance consultancy. I did usability testing, prototyping, and UX design for small companies, including a U.S.-based real estate startup.

UX Design at Nickelodeon

I started my UX career in 2008 at Nickelodeon, where I designed apps for kids. User research meant sitting on a playroom floor making pipe cleaner prototypes with 7-year-olds.

Teach UX

I’ve taught UX classes at General Assembly, and have run professional workshops with the Institute of Advertising in Singapore.
